pattern-titleAbout Jenas Tandoori Restaurant

Ali inkitchenJenas Tandoori Restaurant is a family business run by Ali Hassan and his brothers: Abdul, Talib and Ghalib, who help with the cooking. The restaurant was named after Ali's mother, Jenas, and is a tribute to the memory of a woman who was lovingly devoted to her family. After the family moved to Peterborough from Mombasa, Kenya in search of a better way of life, Ali began his career as a kitchen porter moving around Bury St. Edmonds and Clacton-on-Sea before settling in London, where he began his training in Montys, a well-known Indian/Nepalese restaurant. It was here where he learned the art of his profession.

The secret to Ali's delicious cooking is the fresh vegetables and the hard work that goes into the preparation of the dishes. The spices come direct from India. They are roasted and grounded during the early hours of the morning. Only Ali and his brothers know the blend of ingredients that go into making each dish a distinctive and savoury treat to the palate.

Ali states, "cooking is the love of my life. I find peace and tranquility in the quiet hours of the morning roasting spices and blending ingredients to make the savoury sauces, which give each dish its unique rich flavour. No other Indian restaurant can compare to my cooking."

There is a story behind the preparation of each dish, which involves a delicate balance of herbs and spices. Speciality dishes include tandoori cooking, where the succulent meat is slowly charcoal roasted in a tandoori oven. The Nepalese Murgh Massala is another favourite of Ali's. The secret to this dish is the delicate fusion of spices during the preparation phase. Khurzi lamb consists of legs of baby lamb marinated then cooked whole in a tandoori oven. Following this process, the lamb is cooked again with special sauces in a standard oven to ensure the flavour is soaked into the meat and comes through at the point of consumption.

Ali would like to thank all his customers, who have helped him to flourish in an industry that he loves so much. He is sure that once you have tasted the fine Indian cuisine at Jenas Tandoori Restaurant, you will be at once impressed by the quality and care that goes into preparing each special dish.

Ali invites you to experience the delightful atmosphere and sumptuous cuisine like no other at Jenas Tandoori Restaurant.
